Professor and researcher Megan MacKenzie is “a feminist scholar interested in war, security studies, post-conflict recovery and reconstruction, and military culture.” With this image commission, she wanted to visualize a soldier, but with emphasis on the emotive quality (i.e. a non-literal implication of trauma / PTSD / dread / fear). The illustration needed to show some of the CoLab’s many capabilities — independent and group work, socialization, presentations, prototyping — as well as conceptually convey the collaborative and interdisciplinary spirit of the space. Reference photos were used to build up recognizable elements and activities within the room, without depicting the space literally.&nbsp;The composition also needed to be carefully built to be used in 3&nbsp; different formats (for example, with the right half as a standalone piece, with a pull quote, as a digital asset, etc).
